Program Details

Under the Climate Change (Net Zero Future) Act 2023, NSW has legislated ambitious targets to achieve net zero by 2050, while also ensuring a sustainable and fair future for the people, economy and environment of NSW. With industrial facilities in NSW contributing approximately 30% of the state’s emissions, accelerating their decarbonisation is essential to achieving these targets.

The NSW Government has allocated $40 million within the Industrial Decarbonisation Initiative to the Renewable Gas Production Program. This funding aims to:
• support the production and delivery of biomethane in NSW.
• future-proof existing industrial facilities in NSW and support the state’s fuel security.
• increase the supply of renewable biomethane in the NSW gas grid to support industrial decarbonisation.
• maintain economic resilience, protect jobs and ensure NSW meets its net zero target by 2050.
